We Attract Bachelorettes.
That’s a fact. I think at one #DateMe show last weekend we had EIGHT bachelorette parties. It goes with the territory when you do a dating show.
If we were to create our own dating profile for our show #DateMe we could just put…
“You Should Message Me If… You Are a Bachelorette Party.”
…and then call it a day because we’d be considered a Match Success!
Now, as a comedian and actor, news of a bachelorette party in the audience can lead to Eye Rolls and Groans. I’m sure I’ve even done it at times over the years. Here’s why:
Bachelorette parties are often (not always) filled with plastic penises, shot glasses, and a group of squealing girls.
They often scream at the top of their lungs wanting the actors to put ALL the focus on them for their special day. And it CAN end up disrupting the show and alienating other audience members. That’s just the truth.
Last weekend I saw some variation of THIS on a table in the front row:
I Am Grateful The Bride To Be Took Her Penis Crown Off While Watching The Show.
And she Was Respectful. Didn’t disrupt the show at all. (For real)
In fact, most of the time, it’s just people celebrating and having a good time. And all that squealing comes from excitement. Because they’re getting MARRIED! And that IS a big deal.
I don’t mind it at all. I kind of love it. Our show is about LOVE. And connection. And if people are celebrating that, in whatever fashion they like, I’m all for it.
Just don’t mess up our timing with your squeals!!
So last weekend we had our healthy share of Bachelorette parties. All were polite and lovely. But my favorite was Rachel…
Not Your Average Bachelorette
Rachel and her friends approached us after the show when we were grabbing a drink down at 1959 Kitchen & Bar.
She was Absolutely ADORABLE. And proceeded to tell us that she met her Fiance two years ago on OkCupid. And they bonded over her 6 Things You Can’t Live Without list in her profile.
She told us her 6 Things list. It sounded pretty normal.
I can’t recall all of them: Chapstick? Wine? I don’t know. But I DO know that…
Number 6 Was HARRY POTTER!
Rachel said that she and her Husband-To-Be bonded over their mutual love of Harry Potter. And now, two years later, THEY ARE GETTING MARRIED!
If you’ve seen #DateMe you know that I did a lot of research for the show. And one of the things I found is…
Being Specific & Opinionated In Your Profile = Better Chance Of Finding A Match
And it’s true! I can’t recall the first 5 of Rachel’s 6 Things. But Harry Potter definitely stood out. And led her to meet the love of her life!
Now, if you read my post last week, you saw that I, personally, am a Harry Potter Geek. So I LOVED that Rachel’s Bachelorette party was totally on point with the theme.
No Penises In Sight.
But TONS of Harry Potter references.
If you look closely at the photo above, Rachel’s Profile Nametag says “Cho Chang“. ADORABLE!
Now Normally Bachelorette Sashes Are Some Variation Of This:
But Rachel’s Sash Said:
Yep. I am a Nerd and I LOVE this.
Judge all you want. I had to Google to find a picture and there were TONS of these.
So apparently it’s a Thing. Who knew?!
And The Temporary Tattoos:
“I Solemnly Swear My Bachelorette Party Is Up To No Good”
“I Solemnly Swear Rachel’s Bachelorette Party Is Up To No Good”
Kudos To Rachel’s Entire Bachelorette Party For The ON POINT Harry Potter Themes!
Also, not to make this about me, BUT when we went to take our pictures they did notice my Harry Potter Themed iPhone case.
Yep. I am a grown woman. And I have a cell phone case that lists all the Harry Potter spells.
I. Am. Cool.
And Now Onto YOU!!
Every week we feature our favorite moments from the previous week’s #DateMe audience.
We had submissions via:

Who knows. YOU might be featured!
Let’s start with how RACHEL FELL IN LOVE!…
6 Things You Can’t Live Without
One of the questions OkCupid asks their users is:
We recite several of these answers from user profiles Verbatim in #DateMe.
But then we want to hear from YOU.
We asked. You Tweeted.

Hannah, You’re TOO CUTE & Adorable. Of Course He Wants To Date You!
This Makes Me The Happiest:
I saw this couple sitting in the front row last weekend and they held hands the Entire show. It was the CUTEST!
Incidentally, they were sitting at the same table as the Penis Hat Bachelorette a few nights later. Love expresses itself in many forms!
My Friend Kalee!
Okay. Sometimes I just like to write about my friends who come to see the show. Because, hey, why not?
I met Kalee Dionne doing a podcast with my friend Tony Lossono (Lossano and Friends) last year. And we instantly hit it off.
She and her husband Jonathan came to see #DateMe last year. And they just came back again this past weekend with Jonathan’s sister and her husband. Such good people!
Also, Kalee Genuinely makes me laugh. This pic is one of my Faves from this week:
Our NBC Feature!
Oh, and did I mention that Kalee is a meteorologist on NBC Chicago? And she was kind enough to do a video feature on us earlier this year.
I never got a chance to post it because we were busy with rehearsals and I was overwhelmed. But here it is:
“What would make someone undateable to you? Second City’s Valentine’s Day show #DateMe explores that question in a way you might not have thought about — from cats to booze to smoking to even showering. Kalee Dionne reports. Click here to see more on the dating profiles featured in this story.”
So… the point is. I am grateful for awesome and supportive friends. Thanks, Kalee! XO
